Larry Mindel makes evocative music for the ages that tells affectionate stories about grown-up people and their place in a complex world. Drawing on folk traditions and jazz harmonies, Larry explores the common ground that unites us to help us make sense of our times.

His latest album, ‘Love in Troubled Times’, his first of songs for piano, was recorded during the lull of 2020 lockdown, and features some of London’s best young jazz musicians alongside players rooted in acoustic traditions. As is true for so many of us, Larry lost someone close to him during 2020, and the final song on the album ‘Be Careful How You Go’ captures the loss so many of us have felt.

If you are someone who loves to find a new album to listen to which is full of talent, powerful lyrics and a sound you will instantly fall in love with than you will love this incredible album. This album was the first bits of music I have heard from Larry, it’s not the usual thing I would listen too, however as soon as I pressed play and began to listen to the album I was hooked. The instantly catchy and gripping sound combined with the beautiful vocals is such a joy to listen too.

What I love the most about this album is how each track tells a story which and every track will have you hooked so much that you will listen to every single word without fail. The tracks go through so many emotions, the listener will instantly connect with each track and I believe will relate to a lot of the lyrics.

This album is impossible not to listen to from beginning to end, Larry has created something that sounds so special and will awake every hair on the back of your neck. It’s hard to pick a favourite but if I had to pick one, I would have to go with ‘Be Careful How You Go’, it’s vocals are spot on and the lyrics really caught my attention and I instantly related to them. There was something about this track that caught my attention and made this track just that extra bit special which made it stand out.

A brilliant album!
