Can you tell us a bit about the band?

“We’re Poison Oak, we’re from North Queensland, Townsville, Australia. We play a mix if indie/alternative rock, with a bit of punk rock in the middle”.

How did you all meet?

“Ray and Myself have been friends for a while now, we used to hangout, do exercise and at one point we decided to start jamming. Chris joined in 2020, he initially played with me (James), in teacher’s battle of the bands, then joined Poison Oak shortly after”.

Who were your musical influences growing up?

“Powderfinger, The Cure, Led Zeppelin, Silverchair, Radiohead, Elliot Smith and the list can go on and on”.

What made you want to be in a band?

“Well for this band, it’s just joy of playing and creating music with people”.

What has been your best gig?

“Way back when I lived in Brisbane, I played valley Fesita. We played a sold out show in Black Bear lodge, playing a 90’s covers night. The stage literally felt like trampoline”.

Can you tell us a bit about your music?  

“We have a new single coming out in three weeks, called, “Hope You Like the View”. I feel like it’s a bit more of a produced track comparted to our previous singles, so pretty keen to get it out there”.

Describe your music in 3 words.

“144Beats Per Minute”

What makes your band stand out from others?

“I don’t think it really does, and we don’t really think like that. We just write the music we like, and that’s enough for us”.

If your band had to be remembered for one thing apart from your music what would you want it to be?

“All our song are pretty much 144 Beats per minute”.

Any gig’s coming up?

“We have one coming up in June, it’s called Palm Creek Folk festival, in North Queensland. Should be good fun!”
